Buenos noches, amigos!

We have been busy here and enjoying our surroundings and the people we are with so have been a bit “unplugged”.

A few highlights of the past few days include:  a hike with the a few of the volunteers through the jungle and a TON of mud, the Friday night worship service here at Give Hope 2 Kids, picking oranges for fresh squeezed orange juice, learning to eat cacoa (the fruit that gows cocoa), experimenting with our Honduran cooking skills and lots of time with 10 adorable orphan kids each day.

The guys continue to work on various projects and end the day swimming with all the kids in the river.  Isaiah is teaching on of the boys to swim.  They both are enjoying seeing the daily swimming progress.

The volunteer house is now up to 15 people.  We all have breakfast, lunch, dinner and evenings together.  We are enjoying getting to know the whole group and have made a tradition of tea and games in the evenings.  One of the trees here is a “tea tree”.  The leaves on the tree are boiled and makes a delicious tea that tastes like a mix of many spices.

We saw our first scorpion!  None of us were bitten, but we did chase it around for a little while trying to get a better look at it.  Yup, it looks tough.

Have I mentioned the shower “situation” here?  They only have cold showers.  Really cold.  We joke with the other volunteers about not crying when you shower, a joke but kinda true.  Eva cries almost every time.  You might think you would get used to cold showers, nope, doesn’t happen.  We are totally surviving it, but it is a mental obstacle every time.  I will fully enjoy a nice LONG hot shower when we get home.

Life is good here in the jungle!  We are learning to appreciate a few of the things we take for granted at home (hot showers, a dryer, etc) but we are learning so much more than what we “miss”.  We are learning to love a whole group of kids, a new culture and a much more simple life.  We are amazed daily at how God provides for all He has created.  His power and love is overwhelming and we are thankful for the chance to see things in a whole new light here.

What an adventure! Who knew when we read Radical that it would lead to so many changes for the group of us discussing it almost two years ago! Every time I read this blog, I marvel at how God is using your family and how well he has equipped you for this ministry. This is perfect for your family — but, isn’t that just like God 😉 We continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers! I can hardly wait to catch up after your return home. Blessings to you all!
