“Man makes his plans but God directs his steps.” Proverbs 16:9
We made a last minute detour to Namibia after looking at the map and talking with folks about the ease of border crossings. After a quick search for a hotel, we found a lodge that was extremely reasonable and on the river in the Okavango Delta.
It it was a quiet place nestled on the river with a spectacular view and the most welcoming of people. We enjoyed the pool, the view, the delicious food and mostly the conversations with the owners. We quickly realized we are all Jesus followers and had the most candid conversations of what the spiritual climate of Southern Africa is.
In the area of the Okavango Delta, it is being built up for tourism, but extremely poor tribal groups surround much of the land near there as well. Don tagged along for an afternoon to visit a few of the tribes.
We were introduced to a man who has worked with the tribal communities for many years. He boldly proclaimed the problems the government is causing by caving to worldwide pressure to save animals at the cost of human life and dignity within the tribes. As our conversation went into wee hours of the night, we all knew it was no coincidence that our last minute plan to go through Namibia came about.
We have a sampling of products that a few of the tribes make and a commitment to work closely with our new friend to brainstorm ideas for future partnerships.
